Quote of the Month:

"To be FULLY HUMAN, be fully awake to LIFE AS IT IS, with all its challenges and successes; victories and defeats; endless sorrows, joys, and possibilities. Be here now: Awake to the entire experience. It is the only way to grow to our FULL potential, to find possibility and OPPORTUNITY as a spiritual being on a BUMPY, human path.

Message From Bobbie:

“What do I do now?” Here’s how it started: anxious calls and emails from friends, clients and Rise Up! followers.

A long-term consulting client said to me: “Bobbie, you will know something about what the hell to do so please share it with me because I have a double-down emergency to do deal with.” That was October 2008.

I wish I could tell you, and myself, it’s easy: life, love, success, opportunity and possibility. I wish (sometimes, but not always) there were actual steps, keys, and tools guaranteed to take us to thee finish line; to a reliable, dependable goal or to a magical safe zone that gives us what we think we want: a guarantee that if we follow the “rules” we win!

The 2008 financial crisis and all its personal ramifications rocked many of our worlds. The question was “how do we, does anyone, survive this?”

Overnight, everyone had to adjust to the “new reality.” Confusion banged on the doors of personal and public wealth. Identities, those precious delusions we all hang on to, shifted, crashed, and burned. “Replacement self-definitions” were hard to find. Leaders battled to save only those, “Too Big to Fail.” But that didn’t include most people’s lives!

Ten Principles for Being Human: How to Turn Every Experience
into Opportunity

A CEO client said to me: “Ok, now is the time for the secret sauce. I know you have some! Ego, central command, and authority I worked to maintain won’t help me here! HUMBLED, I’m happy to get whatever advice and counsel you can give me so pour it on!”

An old friend and roommate emailed me this, after the 2008 fallout left her with the loss of her real estate business and the additional difficulties of divorce and a custody battle:

“I’ve seen you go through every challenge a woman can go through. I’ve watched you cry and fall but get up again and turn the experience into something greater than what you had before. At least give me the tips that sustain you!”

My personal search for answers began when I was young, exhausted and confused. My search began with a simple, and anxious life statement and true inner prayer: “I cannot live like this any longer.” Feeling crazy, working hard to please and succeed, holding it all together but feeling like a mouse on a wheel! “I MUST find a way to stay sane and be true to a spiritual path while staying motivated and successful in the world. I MUST find wholeness.”

Featured Exercise:

  1. Breathe: Three deep inhales/exhales, eyes closed; follow your breath. This simple practice relaxes our nervous systems and helps us focus on the present moment. FOCUSED, all other questions and answers become clear and REAL to us.
  2. Until next month, when we begin to reveal Ten Principles for Being Human, think about a recent experience in your life, good or bad, and explore the following questions:
    1. Ask yourself: Am I willing to closely examine my thinking about experience?
    2. Write: What might get in the way of an honest self-examination?
    3. Ask: Am I willing to consider that there is something valuable in every moment? Every Experience?
