Message From Bobbie:

JULY, at Rise Up! we slow down our efforts to answer questions we have studied all of 2014: “what is the call of my inner voice; what is my LIFE PURPOSE?” In July, we learn to STAY ALIVE in the middle of the question itself.

Questions are ALIVE with meaning. QUESTIONS OPEN the windows and doors to the past and give structure and context to the present. When we allow the question to be ALIVE within us, we don’t run to easy, quick, predictable answers, we give ourselves the space to quiet, calm, meditate, think and breathe. In that quiet space, we can better consider all the possibilities and aspects of LIFE PURPOSE.

Staying with the questions themselves is a kind of CHOOSING. When we CHOOSE to STAY long enough to get comfortable with the uncertainty of THE BIG QUESTIONS of life we choose to look and listen at a deep level. When we pay close attention, OLD PATTERNS reveal their secrets and the choice to create new possibilities becomes a real option. Until then the programmed OLD PATTERNS have more than influence on our current lives and thinking than we can imagine! OLD PATTERNS have control of our identity; they define who we are; what our LIFE PURPOSE is, based on their needs, not ours!

Our Inner Voice is hard to hear if we rush for answers that align with the false safety of OLD PATTERNS. The inner voice that speaks of NEW POSSIBILITIES is snuffed out by the past. To search for LIFE PURPOSE we have to be willing to stay in the question, face the old patterns with courage and listen for the deeper voice.

Only when the questions are ALIVE as a working process, can the doors to concentration, thoughtfulness and examination open in order to consider all the things that held us back before this time and all the possibilities ahead of us. ALIVE to a new understanding of the past and its effects on our present thinking we can CHOOSE a LIFE PURPOSE!

Featured Journal Entry:

Aware and Alive in Each Question

Vicky is a funny, dedicated, ball of energy; by her own defintion she’s a “go-getter!” “I came to the Rise Up! workshop! to “go get” a new LIFE PURPOSE! With my kids in college, and my work responsibilities and projects up and running, and the next gen ready to take over, I came to explore my inner voice! I’m in my early fifties, ‘it’s about time,’ for a new direction.

As a community organizer in a high-risk neighborhood I often need to have THEE answer and fast! I know how to find solutions and move quickly to a plan when other people are still scratching their heads and bad things are coming down! STAY? Slow, calm and THINK deeply? NO WAY did I want to ‘Stay in the questions;’ it didn’t feel ALIVE to me; it felt scary! LIFE PURPOSE? I want an answer now!”

Featured Exercise:

  1. Make a list of ALL the UNCERTAINTIES that come up for you when you think about creating a LIFE PURPOSE (they may be “will I have to move?”; “give up my job, dog, wife, my local bar?”)
  2. STAY in the UNCERTAINTY. Literally calm, sit down, don’t drive, run, climb a tree etc., JUST sit and STAY in the wobbly energy of UNCETAIN/UNSAFE/TOO DEMANDING. Allow the nervous etc., energy to fill you; breathe it in and out.
  3. NOTICE: It didn’t kill you! You are likely still sitting there. SIT until pictures of people, places, things, OR smells or sounds, begin to enter your consciousness. MAKE A MENTAL NOTE of that interruption.
